Testing Gen1 Motor

Follow the below steps to test your GEN1 Attic Breeze Motor from inside your attic.

Tools needed:

  • 1/8-inch Allen Key
  • 7/16 Deep Well Socket
  • Ratchet
  • 9v Battery
  • 2ft 22awg Black and Red Electrical Wire

From the Attic:

  1. Locate the thermal and fire safety wiring harness at the base of your fan. (These will be the only wires located at the base of your fan).
  2. Disconnect the thermal and fire safety connector by pulling the two black connectors away from each other. This will disconnect the solar power going to your fan. (DO NOT pull excessively on the wiring as to not harm the harness assembly).
  3. Loosen the 1/8-inch Allen key screw, located on the shaft of the fan blade.
  4. Pull fan blade off carefully so to not bend the blades. (Bent blades will cause your fan to not operate properly, shaking and vibrating the housing).
  5. Locate the two connecting wires at the base of the motor and remove both black and white wire. (Notice the direction the wire mounts are facing prior to removing the motor).
  6. Attach black wire to the negative side of the 9v Battery. (Note on the side of the 9v Battery, it will show a -/+ for proper connection).
  7. Attach red wire to the positive side of the 9v Battery. (Note on the side of the 9v Battery, it will show a -/+ for proper connection).
  8. Locate the black and red connecting post at the base of the motor. (Notice that each post is marked, one red and one black).
  9. Connect the red wire to the red post and connect the black wire to the black post.
    1. If the motor spins, the motor is operational. Continue to step 10.
    2. If the motor does not spin, contact Attic Breeze Technical Support.
  10. Connect both white and black wires to their correct position and ensure they are secure. (Misplacing wires will cause your fan to not turn on).
  11. Place the fan blade onto the motor shaft. Notice there is a flat side of the motor shaft. You will align the flat side with the 1/8-inch Allen key screw hole. Make sure the shaft and base of the fan blade are even with each other prior to tightening the 1/8-inch Allen key screw. (If fan blade is not mounted flush with the motor shaft, the fan will not work properly).
  12. Once the screw is tightened, you can now connect your thermal and fire safety connector at the housing base. (Ensure that nothing is in the way of fan blades prior to connecting the harness).

NOTE: If needed, follow the instructions under “Motor Replacement” once you’ve received a replacement motor.
