Replacing the Solar Panel
Follow the below steps to test your GEN3 Attic Breeze solar panel.
You will be working in both the attic and the roof.
Tools needed:
- Digital Multimeter with red and black leads
- Phillips head screwdriver
- 7/16 Deep Well Socket
- Ratchet
- Flat head screwdriver
From the Attic:
- Locate thermal and fire safety wiring harness at the base of your fan. (These will be the only wires located at the base of your fan. This will remove all solar power to the unit.)
- Disconnect the thermal and fire safety connector by pulling the two black connectors away from each other. This will disconnect the solar power going to your fan. (Do NOT pull excessively on the wiring as to not harm the harness assembly.)
From the Roof:
- Loosen the six 7/16 nuts on the solar panel bracket. (This will allow movement of the solar panel.)
- Elevate the solar panel and locate the wire connecting harness.
- Disconnect the solar panel wiring harness by pulling on the black connecting ends away from each other. (Do not pull excessively as to not harm the harness assembly.)
- Locate the DC Voltage symbol on your multi-meter and place it on the 200 testing. (a capital letter “V” with a wavy line above it.)
- Place the black lead into the female side of the connecting harness coming off of the solar panel. *Ensure the lead points do not touch each other.)
- Place the red lead into the male side of the connecting harness coming off of the solar panel. (Ensure the lead points do not touch each other.)
- Look at the reading on the multi-meter. (It should read a DC Voltage of 18-20 or higher with good sun exposure.)
- If the solar panel is reading correct voltage, the solar panel is functioning correctly.
- If the solar panel is reading incorrectly or negative, proceed to step 10.
- Locate the black wiring box at the base of the wiring harness attached to the solar panel.
- Press up gently on the four tabs holding the wiring box closed, using a flat head screwdriver (This will allow you access to the two connecting wires).
- The black wire should be connected to the top/right of the wiring box.
- The white wire should be connected to the bottom/left of the wiring box.
- If wires are not in correct position, loosen screws holding wires on and place the black and white wires into their respective positions. (Return to step 6)
- If wires are in correct position, please contact Attic Breeze Technical Support.
- Connect the wiring harness from the back of the new Solar Panel to the wiring harness on top of the fan housing. (Ensure the wiring harnesses are properly connected with no silver showing between the connectors.)
- Position the new solar panel in the same position that the previous panel was placed. (This is to ensure the Attic Breeze fan works properly.)
- Tighten down the six 7/16 nuts to hold the solar panel in position (DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN).
From the Attic:
- Connect the thermal and fire safety wiring harness at the base of the fan housing. (Ensure that nothing is in the way of the fan blades prior to connecting.)
