Replacing the Motor - Interior
Follow the steps below to successfully change out your Attic Breeze fan motor from inside your attic.
Tools needed:
- 1/8-inch Allen Key
- 7/16 Deep Well Socket
- Ratchet
From the Attic:
- Locate thermal and fire safety wiring harness at the base of your fan. (These will be the only wires located at the base of your fan).
- Disconnect the thermal and fire safety connector by pulling the two black connectors away from each other. This will disconnect the solar power going to your fan. (DO NOT pull excessively on the wiring as this could harm the harness assembly).
- Loosen the 1/8-inch Allen key screw located on the shaft of the fan blade.
- Pull fan blade off carefully so to not bend the blades. (Bent blades will cause your fan to not operate properly).
- Locate the two connecting wires at the base of the motor and remove both black and white wire. (Notice the direction the wire mounts are facing prior to removing the motor).
- Locate the strap holding your motor in place and loosen the 7/16 nut using a 7/16 deep well socket and ratchet enough to remove the strap.
- The motor is now free to move and can be removed by slightly pulling the mounting bracket out enough to maneuver the motor out. (CAUTION: the three mounting brackets may have sharp edges).
- Place new motor into the three brackets by pulling back slightly on one bracket and sliding the motor into the brackets. The motor will sit flush on the three mounting brackets. (DO NOT pull excessively on mounting brackets to ensure no damage is done).
- Take the holding strap and place it around both the mounting brackets and the motor and tighten with a 7/16 socket and ratchet. The strap should be centered prior to tightening the strap. The strap should be tightened at the middle of the motor securely. (This will ensure that your motor does not shift during normal operations.)
- Connect both white and black wire to its correct position and ensure they are secure. (Misplacing wires will cause your fan not to turn on).
- Place the fan blade onto the motor shaft. Notice there is a flat side of the motor shaft. You will align the flat side with the 1/8-inch Allen key screw hole. Make sure the shaft and base of the fan blade are even with each other prior to tightening the 1/8-inch allen key screw. (If fan blade is not mounted flush with the motor shaft, the fan will not work properly).
- Once the screw is tightened, you can now connect your thermal and fire safety connector at the housing base. (Ensure that nothing is in the way of fan blades prior to connecting the harness).
